Reminder: Small Business Saturday is coming soon

An initiative to celebrate the nation’s small businesses could be a chance for your company to receive a boost to business.

20th November 2014

SMEs across the UK will receive a pre-Christmas boost on December the 6th, as the country celebrates Small Business Saturday. This initiative aims to celebrate small retailers and other SMEs. It is a non-political, non-commercial campaign that boosts the profile of SMEs in the short-term with a view to increasing their sales and success in the longer-term. It’s the second year that Small Business Saturday has taken place in the UK, but the event has its origins in the US in 2010. The 2013 event was deemed a success, with around half of survey respondents stating that they had heard of the event and attendees spending a total of £500 million at UK SMEs on the day. Politicians also made use of the day, revealing new government pledges on broadband access and tackling late payments.

This year, small retailers can take part in the event in several ways. First, they can join local Small Business Saturday events. Alternatively, companies may wish to print off posters and fliers or promote in-store offers and events on social media. Contacting local councillors, your MP and the local press could also provide your store with some free coverage. Use the hashtag #SmallBizSatUk to get involved on Twitter, and increase brand awareness.

Small Business Saturday is an event that every small retailer can become involved with. If you use retail and point-of-sale software, you can easily track the success of any in-store events, discounts or offers. Want to see the software in action? Contact us to arrange a free demo.
